چکیده

Several timbers and crop by-products were subjected to an enzymatic treatment to obtain a xylo-oligosaccharides-enriched preparation. The process was performed by means of the commercial endo-β-1,4xylanase Buzyme 2511. The enzymatic cocktail was applied onto the raw ground materials with yield up to 5.3 ± 1.0 g/L xylo-oligosaccharides for apple pomace. In order to make the materials more accessible to enzymatic hydrolysis, they were subjected to thermal-alkaline treatment. The biocatalysis process over the thermo-alkaline treated materials yielded xylo-oligosaccharide solutions with the following concentrations (g/l): 1.3 white poplar (Populus alba), 2.9 giant cane (Arundo donax), 3.7 apple pomace (Malus domestica), and 6.5 stalk of grapes (Vitis vinifera). The preparation resulting from biotransformation of grape stalk contained mostly xylo-oligosaccharides (96% w/v) with a small amount of xylose (3% w/v). The same ratio was obtained when pure xylan from birchwood was used as feedstock.

Enzymatic modification and characterization of xylo-oligosaccharide esters as potential emulsifiers

Hydrophobically modified xylo-oligosaccharides were prepared by enzymatic esterification of xylo-oligosaccharide and three fatty acids: decanoic acid (C-10), lauric acid (C-12) and palmitic acid (C-16). Lipase obtained from Thermomyces lanuginosus was used as a biocatalyst in the reaction. The degree of substitution (DS) of esterified xylo-oligosaccharide, prepared at a reaction temperature of ...

MALDI-TOF MS analysis of cellodextrins and xylo-oligosaccharides produced by hindgut homogenates of Reticulitermes santonensis.

Hindgut homogenates of the termite Reticulitermes santonensis were incubated with carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), crystalline celluloses or xylan substrates. Hydrolysates were analyzed with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization coupled to time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). The method was first set up using acid hydrolysis analysis to characterize non-enzymatic profiles. Comme...

Multi-step approach to add value to corncob: Production of biomass-degrading enzymes, lignin and fermentable sugars.

This work presents an integrated and multi-step approach for the recovery and/or application of the lignocellulosic fractions from corncob in the production of high value added compounds as xylo-oligosaccharides, enzymes, fermentable sugars, and lignin in terms of biorefinery concept. For that, liquid hot water followed by enzymatic hydrolysis were used. Liquid hot water was performed using dif...

Glycosynthase-based synthesis of xylo-oligosaccharides using an engineered retaining xylanase from Cellulomonas fimi.

Glycosynthases are synthetic enzymes derived from retaining glycosidases in which the catalytic nucleophile has been replaced. The mutation allows irreversible glycosylation of sugar acceptors using glycosyl fluoride donors to afford oligosaccharides without any enzymatic hydrolysis. Glycosynthase technology has proven fruitful for the facile synthesis of useful oligosaccharides, therefore the ...

Utilisation of corn (Zea mays) bran and corn fiber in the production of food components.

The milling of corn for the production of food constituents results in a number of low-value co-products. Two of the major co-products produced by this operation are corn bran and corn fiber, which currently have low commercial value. This review focuses on current and prospective research surrounding the utilization of corn fiber and corn bran in the production of potentially higher-value food...
